Officials won't reveal action taken in racial profiling case

PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County officials took a vote on a proposal related to Sheriff Joe Arpaio's racial profiling case Wednesday during a meeting that was shrouded in secrecy.

Taxpayers have to foot the bill for the mounting tab for Arpaio's legal woes, and the county's Board of Supervisors met with lawyers behind closed for an hour Wednesday to discuss the lawsuit.

The meeting was briefly opened up to the public, and supervisors approved a proposal to take actions consistent with the advice just given by their attorneys. The proposal included no specifics.

A person in the room where the meeting was held then joked that news reporters would have a difficult time writing about the vague proposal. Laughter then erupted in the room that was filled with supervisors, county staffers and attorneys.
