PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man is in custody for allegedly chaining dogs to a treadmill and forcing them to fight other dogs for profit.
Phoenix police say 37-year-old Barry Lemore Kee was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of 13 counts of animal fighting.
They say 13 pit bulls, a dog treadmill, injectibles and syringes were found at a home.
The Arizona Humane Society contacted police Saturday after a witness provided staff with details of Kee's alleged actions.
According to court records, the witness also gave police some audio recordings of Kee's discussions about dog fighting.
Kee didn't have an attorney at his initial court appearance Thursday.
He has a status conference scheduled for May 28 and a June 3 preliminary hearing.
