Phoenix man arrested, accused of sexually assaulting woman

PHOENIX (AP) - A man is accused of breaking into a Phoenix couple's apartment and sexually assaulting a woman he'd seen earlier at a bar.

Authorities say 54-year-old Tilfert Darrell Vaughn was arrested in the case Sunday.

He was ordered held without bond after his initial court appearance Monday and doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Phoenix police say Vaughn allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old-woman while holding a large knife to her throat on Nov. 5 in her apartment.

Court records show the woman's 30-year-old boyfriend woke up when Vaughn got in bed and injured his hand when his fingers came into contact with Vaughn's knife.

Both victims told police that they feared Vaughn would kill them if they didn't obey him.

Police say Vaughn's DNA matched physical evidence taken from the woman's forensic exam.
