Phoenix woman accused of fatally stabbing her dog

PHOENIX (AP) - A 36-year-old Phoenix woman is accused of fatally stabbing her dog.

Police said Jennifer Lewis was arrested Saturday night after a neighbor reported seeing Lewis run back into her house without saying anything after stabbing her dog with a steak knife in the driveway near 43rd and West Virginia Avenues.

Lewis was booked into jail on suspicion of intentionally or knowingly subjecting an animal to cruel mistreatment.

Police said in a court document that Lewis' mother told police that her daughter had been acting she was depressed and had a mental disorder.

The mother was not identified by name in the court document, which also said the dog was small but which did not specify its breed.

Lewis remained in jail Monday. She didn't have an attorney when she made an initial court appearance Sunday.
