Pinal County jail inmate dies after being found unresponsive

FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate who was found unresponsive the morning after he was booked into Pinal County jail has died.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Skyler Clem, of Florence, was found unconscious in a cell Saturday.

Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney says medical staff immediately administered emergency care but Clem was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Clem was arrested by Florence police Friday night on two outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for DUI offenses.

Gaffney says Clem was cooperative while being booked.

His body shows no signs of trauma or foul play. But an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

According to Gaffney, Clem's mother says her son had a history of drug abuse.
