Teens charged with murder in Peoria man's death

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Two teenagers have been charged with first-degree murder as adults in the death of a Peoria man.

Authorities say 39-year-old Steven Gibson Sr. had been beaten with an aluminum bat and stabbed early last month.

Police say 16-year-old Steven Gibson Jr. and his mother told the teen's friend, Erik McBee, that the elder Gibson was a danger to the family and offered McBee $1,000 to kill him.

Police say McBee struck Gibson Sr. with the bat and stabbed him while the family was away. He has pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say Gibson Jr. later returned and helped kill his father, whose body was found in the garage. He's scheduled to appear in court next week.

The mother, Michelle Gibson, has been arrested but not formally charged in the case.
