Water slide gets icy reception from some in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP/KSAZ) - Some Flagstaff residents are throwing cold water on a giant water slide set to arrive this summer.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the 1,000-foot-long slide has drawn concerns about wasting water.

The slide, which will only be operating July 11, is one of several events set up nationwide by Slide the City. The event also happened in Phoenix in May.

The Salt Lake City-based business uses between 12,000 and 20,000 gallons of water for a slide. The company treats the water and gives it to the host city for reuse after.

Members of Friends of Flagstaff's Future say the City Council the event should have been put before the City Council for approval.

City officials say the event already went through a higher level review than most events.

They say the water will be recycled.
