PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix firefighters battled a house fire near 44th Street and Greenway Friday morning that threatened other homes in the area.
As you can see, most of the home's roof is gone -- parts were melted off due to the intense flames.
Phoenix Fire Department Captain Aaron Ernsberger says around 7:00 a.m. Friday, a call came in from neighbors about seeing fire and smoke.
"When first arriving units got here, they had heavy fire coming from the roof, flame lengths were 20 to 30 feet in the air and they had a rescue profile that was elevated beyond belief.. our motto is we will risk our lives to save a life.. we were thinking people were inside this home."
Once firefighters gained entry, they didn't find anyone inside the house.
"The homeowner was gone.. reports are the house was just bought and he was in the process of moving in, so we're trying to locate him to help him with this process," explained Ernsberger.
The cause of the fire is not clear.
Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
