Plane struck by lightning makes emergency landing

- There were some scary moments for passengers on an American Airlines flight forced to make an emergency landing after being struck by lightning.

The plane was traveling to New York City's LaGuardia Airport from North Carolina when it was struck by lightning. The plane made a diversion to JFK Airport following the incident.

"There was a flash of light, a big explosion; the plane dipped about 100 feet. I don't know; it felt like I was on a roller coaster," said Lou Luca.

There were nearly 60 people on board the flight which was met by emergency crews on the ground; no one was injured.

Officials say lightning strikes are very common, on average every airliner will be struck by lightning once a year.

The FAA is investigating the incident.
