Yavapai deputies searching for arson, burglary suspects

-
Sheriff’s deputies in Yavapai County are searching for suspects involved in a burglary and arson incident at a mining site.

Dwight D’Evelyn with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were dispatched to a mining site south of Highway 69 at the south end of Prescott Valley on August 13. Prescott Valley Police and Central Yavapai Fire personnel had begun an investigation after they found an arson fire along with criminal damage and theft at the site, D’Evelyn said.

During the investigation, fire officials found evidence of at least 2 fires that appeared to have been intentionally started on site, according to D’Evelyn.

Officials believe the suspects entered the fenced area by forcing their way through at least 2 padlocked gates to access the mining site. A backhoe and several other pieces of equipment were vandalized, which could cost thousands of dollars in damage, according to D’Evelyn.

Some of the items stolen include a 15 ton jack, several “Dayton” brand lever chain hoists, a “Honda” brand water pump, electric pump, welding helmet, 5 gallon gas can with fuel, tie down straps, grease guns, 18 and 24 inch pipe wrenches, and a load leveler hitch.

Detectives need the communities help in locating the individuals responsible for the burglary and arson incidents.
