A Glendale woman whose husband passed away got some much needed help from police.
The Glendale Police Department was responding to her home after her husband’s death to try and comfort her when they noticed her front door lock was broken.
These officers stepped into action right away. They knew the broken lock wasn't safe and knew the woman had no one else to help her, so they went to home depot, bought her a new lock, and even installed it.
"When the coroner finally came and got my husband, I walked over here and he was working on it, and I have never seen that before, that's a new one," said homeowner Geraldeine Tabor.
Tabor is still working through the shock of losing her husband this morning.
She called the Glendale Police Department to report his death and when they arrived, they did more than just provide support after noticing the lock to her front door wasn't right.
"It was a lock that's normally used in the inside of the house for a bathroom and it wouldn't latch, there was no latch to it and she was using a dead bolt to try and keep it locked at night," said Sgt. Jeff Turney with the Glendale Police Department.
After seeing this sergeant Sgt. Jeff Turney felt compelled to help.
"I had a Home Depot card in my pocket, so I sent an officer to Home Depot on 43rd there and Camelback and told him to pick up a front door lock and he brought it back, and I pulled my tool bag out and we went to town and fixed it before we left."
Turney said the lock had been broken for years and he knew Tabor had no one else to help fix it, especially now after losing her husband.
"I've been doing this for 36 years now and I've seen a lot of people in trouble and we try to help them one at a time," said Turney.
Although they couldn't take away Tabor's sadness of losing a loved one, Turney says they feel better about the situation knowing she's a little more safe tonight.
"They have enough, a big job taking care of us out there, they don't need to you know, and I really do appreciate it," said Tabor.
The old lock didn’t even have a way of locking it from the outside and didn’t even have a key for it, so now she has a real lock with real keys.
