- Activists held a gun safety rally at the Arizona State Capitol Thursday. They say the gun bills at the legislature have gone way too far and put public safety at risk. Mary Reed was shot in the mass shooting in Tucson that killed six and gravely injured Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

"What Arizona wants and needs to keep us safe, our children, our state, our country, we have had enough and now we will tell them that," said Mary Reed.

But backers of the gun bills say there are already too many restrictions.

"I think the gun control movement is a movement because illegally the federal government has tried to restrict the second amendment," said Rep. David Livingston.

"It is such a heated issue, as soon as somebody brings it up, or a tragic event, there is a knee-jerk reaction to say it must be the guns fault instead of the owners fault," said Senator Steve Smith.

Emily Nottingham disagrees, her son Gabe Zimmerman was killed in the Tucson shooting.

"As we continue to raise our voices, people do hear us, and other people will join us, and under pressure legislators and the Governor will at some point dust off their common sense and help us protect one another," said Emily Nottingham.
