TUCSON, Ariz. (KSAZ) -
A prominent politician in Southern Arizona and the sister of former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has died after she was involved in a crash.
Just after 7:30 a.m., Saturday, Pima County deputies responded to a car crash west of Westward Look Drive on Ina Road.
Deputies say 24-year-old Jarrad Barnes was booked on charges of manslaughter and DUI in connection with the deadly crash.
Deputies say that former Pima County District 1 Supervisor, 77-year-old Ann Day, was eastbound on Ina Road when the vehicle driven by Barnes crossed the raised median and struck her vehicle head on, says Deputy Ryan Inglett with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Then, a pickup truck rear-ended Day’s car since the driver was unable to stop or maneuver around her vehicle.
Day was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The two other drivers involved in the crash suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
