GILBERT, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Authorities are investigating after a student hacked into a valley school's email account and sent inappropriate messages to other students.
The Gilbert Public School District tells Fox 10 that a Highland Junior High School student obtained a teacher's login information and sent the messages to other students last weekend.
After the email was hacked, the school's technology department disabled all teacher and student accounts and notified parents.
The school district released the following statement to Fox 10 regarding this incident:
"A Highland Junior High student hacked a teacher's login information and used the email address to send inappropriate images to other students. The District equips all computers with the strongest content filtering and monitoring solutions in attempt to prevent users from gaining access to inappropriate material. Our technology department was able to quickly disable the teacher account and student accounts. The Gilbert Public Schools district has strict policies on the student use of technology. Teachers and staff actively monitor students' computer use. We also provide all students with instruction related to appropriate online behaviors including interacting with other individuals online. This is an ongoing investigation by the Gilbert Police Department. Any information on that investigation would come from Gilbert PD."
Gilbert police and the FBI are investigating.
