PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Twenty-two-year-old Evan was only 12 when it all began.
He and his family picked up his older brother Graham from college when they saw their first signs of opioid addiction.
"I recall him being sick in the car and I didn't understand it at the time, I didn't comprehend drug abuse because I was so young," said Evan.
Graham was hooked on black tar heroin and began falling down a seemingly endless downward spiral, but after decades of abuse and failed attempts at sobriety he finally got his life back at Terros Health's Maverick House Sober Living.
Now he's helping paint a mural at the center.
