Valley residents look for ways to beat the heat during Memorial Day weekend

Memorial Day weekend got off to a great start for dozens of people here in the valley. They spent the day by the pool while others were out for a new sweet treat.

People kicked off the holiday weekend with some fun in the sun at the Tempe Mission Palms. 
 
From now until Labor Day Arizona residents can enjoy the pool...food...and fun. 
 
Dozens of others took a dive at the Cortez Pool.
 
All City of Phoenix pools are open this weekend for people to come take a dip.
 
The Diamondbacks teamed up with the City of Phoenix this summer to make sure it's a safe one, providing swim lessons for just 3 dollars per person.
 
For those taking to the pools and maybe those who aren't... There's another delicious way to cool off this Memorial Day. 
 
It's here at the Baked Bear in Scottsdale where you can make an ice cream sandwich your way.
