Officials in Maricopa say a missing woman’s body was found earlier this week.
The woman, identified as 25-year-old Angela Russo was reported missing a month ago.
Fox 10 received this update from Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricardo Alvarado:
“On May 25, 2016, after dedicating hundreds of hours, a Maricopa Police Department investigation has led to the discovery of the body of missing 25-year-old Angela Russo in a desert area in Maricopa County.”
Alvarado went on to say that there was significant evidence of foul play at the scene where Russo’s body was found.
Shortly after Maricopa announced that Russo’s body had been found, officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man named Lashawn Johnson had been arrested in connection to Russo’s murder.
MCSO’s Doug Madison told Fox 10 that Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder.
“We are deeply saddened for the family and friends of Angela Russo. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” said City of Maricopa Police Chief Steve Stahl. “This is an active investigation and we ask for the public’s patience as we sort through the details and work to bring those responsible to justice.”
Officials continued to tell us that this is an ongoing investigation. Therefore, as new information develops, we will bring you the latest.
