Dozens of people gathered at the Maryvale Community Center on Thursday night for a candlelight vigil to honor the five homicide victims.

These five people were shot and killed between April 1st and June 12th in front of their homes between 67th avenue and McDowell to 55th avenue and Campbell.

"I feel safe here but sometimes when I hear those things I feel uncomfortable going out by myself," said Daniel Quintero who lives in Maryvale.

Police believe all of the crimes are connected because of the similarities.

"We are working closely with the Phoenix police department. We are working closely with neighborhood community leaders, business leaders, our clergy and the goal obviously is to figure out who committed these crimes, they will be brought to justice and it's the least we as a community can do for the families of these victims," said Councilman Daniel Valenzuela.

Phoenix councilman Daniel Valenzuela urging everyone in the community to stay vigilant and if you see something suspicious say something.

"Our youth deserve to play in their front yard or to come out to the community center without fear of of this type of evil and together as a community were going to continue to stand up for one another," said Councilman Valenzuela.

People living in the community hope whoever is responsible will soon be brought to justice so their community can rest.
