17 dogs avoid injury after escaping during house fire

Seventeen dogs were not hurt after escaping through a doggie door during a fire at a valley house on Thursday.

The Phoenix Fire Department tells Fox 10 that a fire broke out at the back of the home near 48th Avenue and Encanto. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the back of the home.

The fire was confined to the back bedroom, where all of the dogs lived inside the home. All 17 dogs escaped through the doggie door unharmed.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
