Allen Colbert is a star cornerback for a club football team in Scottsdale. He's also the suspect in a kidnapping and sexual abuse case.
According to Tempe Police an 18-year-old woman was walking alone on Broadway in Tempe early Labor Day morning. She had just left a party when 28-year-old Colbert approached her.
"He was in a silver vehicle, pulled up next to her, got out of the vehicle and pulled her into the vehicle, she was screaming and begging for help, at that point there were other 9-1-1 calls saying there was a young female screaming for help," said Lt. Mike Pooley.
Tempe Police officers rushed into the area, but were unable to find the young woman or the car.
An hour later police got another 9-1-1 call from a gas station on the corner of McClintock and Broadway.
"The clerk called and said a young female had a run in, she was distraught, and disheveled, and said she had been kidnapped," said Pooley.
An alert witness had gotten a license plate number of the car which helped police track down Colbert at an apartment he shares with his girlfriend in the area.
Police say the attack is a sober reminder to everyone in Tempe, filled with young co-eds.
"It's dangerous to walk around at night, especially in a college area like this when there's so many young people that can be targets, definitely stay in pairs and groups," said Samantha, an ASU Freshman.
Colbert was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on charges of sexual abuse.
