195 arrested in AZ in US Marshals operation

The US Marshals Office has arrested 195 fugitives in Arizona as part of a two-month investigation they're calling "Operation Summer Burn."

The operation focuses on areas in Phoenix and Chandler that have a reported history of gang activity.

The Marshals Office say two homicide suspects were among the fugitives arrested for a variety of crime. Twenty-five aggravated assault suspects were apprehended, and another twenty-five suspects for sexual assault or sex offenses were taken into custody.

Eighty-five drug offenders, sixteen robbery suspects, and twenty-two violent crime suspects were also arrested as part of the operation, according to the Marshals Office. Seventeen others were taken into custody for firearm-related offenses.

Twenty-two firearms were seized in the operation, along with more than 15 grams of cocaine, nearly sixty-six grams of heroin, twenty-four ounces of marijuana and fourteen grams of meth. More than $13,000 in cash was also confiscated.

The agency received help from police departments in Phoenix, Chandler, Glendale and Surprise, as well as assistance from the Department of Public Safety, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, and Arizona Department of Corrections
