PRESCOTT, Ariz. (KSAZ)
People gathered in Prescott on Saturday morning to honor Kayla Mueller, the Arizona woman who died while being held captive by ISIS.
Family, friends and community members gathered in Prescott officially open up a brand new playground built and dedicated to Kayla Mueller.
Kayla was a humanitarian from Prescott held captive and eventually was killed by ISIS in 2015.
Her parents, Carl and Marsha say it represents everything Kayla stood for.
"Kayla was just Kayla, always the same she loved life she was happy she was joyful but she was on a mission and it was a gift from God and I truly believe that," said Kayla's mother, Marsha.
They named the playground 'Kayla's Hands' because of something she used to always say.
"I still go back to Kayla giving me a little hand right before she went back June of 2013 and saying, mom you'll always have my hand and here it is and I'll always have Kayla's hand."
