Take a look at this…a brazen and dangerous theft caught on tape.
A suspect with a knife gets dangerously close to his victim and now police need your help identifying him.
A busy convenience store turned into a crime scene early one morning, and surveillance cameras caught the blatant act on tape.
“About 2:00 in the morning Sunday morning, Saturday night.”
Detective Kim Bates with Silent Witness says video cameras inside the 7-11 on east Southern Avenue at 16th Street in Phoenix were rolling the entire time.
You can see the suspect walk into the store...and almost look right into the camera.
Another angle shows the man walk around. According to police it looks as if he's waiting for the other customers to leave before he strikes.
He ran behind the counter and pretty aggressively put it towards one of the clerks,” says Bates. “The store clerks used that where to direct her around where he needed her to commit the robbery.”
You can see the suspect run behind the counter - the large knife in hand.
Another angle - this one from behind the register - shows the terrified clerk as the knife gets too close for comfort.
“He used the knife to forcefully direct her around, but luckily she was not hurt,” says Bates. “She complied and did what she was supposed to and let the robbery happen so that she wasn’t injured.”
Once he got what he wanted, the suspect starts to leave. He spends a few minutes standing, possibly starring at the clerk.
The video shows him walking over to the door, waiting a few more minutes before finally leaving.
“When somebody goes to this level and uses a weapon in such a way that… as you can see on the video, it’s extremely scary.”
Scary and, according to police, extremely dangerous.
They say there's no telling what the suspect could do next, so they hope the public can help get him off the street.
