Mexican President contradicts Trump on border wall

Donald Trump made a fifth visit to the valley to talk immigration, but before arriving in Phoenix, he stopped in Mexico City to meet with that country's president.

It was a quick last minute meeting with President Enrique Pena-Nieto and Trump's first formal international trip since he secured the Republican nomination.

Trump ran on a promise to build a wall on the Mexican border and have the Mexicans pay for it. No mention of that was made in Wednesday's news conference with President Pena-Nieto.

"We did discuss the wall, not payment, that is for a later date.. excellent meeting, well on our way.. we have to say what's happening.. a lot of crime and problems, but we will solve those problems," said Trump.

Trump said he has a five point plan for dealing with Mexico, centered on fair trade and border security.

Trump has said many illegal immigrants from Mexico are drug dealers, rapists and murderers, but he delivered a different message on Wednesday.

"The United States' first, second, third generation Mexicans are just beyond reproach.. spectacular, hard working people," said Trump.

Mexico's president put a diplomatic spin on Trump's campaign rhetoric.

"The Mexican people have felt insulted by certain comments, but I was certain his interest is to build a relationship that might lead us to provide our society's better conditions," said Pena-Nieto.
