DPS increases reward for freeway shooting tips to $50,000

- The Arizona Department of Public Safety has increased a reward for the #AZFreewayShootings suspect(s) to $50,000.

The increase in funding is part of an effort by Silent Witness and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association.

DPS Director Colonel Frank Milstead says they have not solved this case, but continue to use all resources to catch the shooter. Officers have received over 850 tips, 550 of those are under active investigation.

Col. Milstead said they have linked 11 incidents, and believe there are three motives; shooting incidents, projectile incidents, and road rage.

Officials say there have been no new incidents since Thursday that are linked to the other incidents. Over the weekend officers arrested three young men in the east valley who were using a slingshot to damage cars on the freeway. Milstead said that the three young men were not involved in the other incidents.

Authorities on Friday questioned 19-year-old Oscar De La Torre Munoz in a string of freeway shootings over the past two weeks that have rattled Phoenix and led to a massive search for suspects. Munoz was booked into jail for marijuana possession charges. DPS says he is not the shooter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DPS. If it is an emergency call 9-1-1, otherwise call in tips to 602-644-5805 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
