TEMPE (KSAZ) - This year marks 15 years since the tragic events that took place on 9/11.
And Saturday hundreds of people gathered in Tempe showing their support for those who lost their lives on that day and to those fighting for our country.
"This is a great country to live in and glad to be apart of it and enjoying the communities that are around here."
Nearly 800 people hit Tempe Beach Park Saturday morning for the 9/11 Heroes 5k Run.
"Makes me feel very proud of our country."
Runners gathered to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11 and all that serve our country.
"I flew in from LA last night because anything for charity is a great thing but something for our 9/11 heroes is even better super proud of being part of this with my family and celebrating on this special labor day holiday it's a wonderful thing."
Proceeds from the run benefit the Travis Manion Foundation which helps veterans get jobs and sends care packages to active duty military and helps kids learn about integrity.
"They're just an amazing organization there is a character does matter program which teaches young kids that character does matter."
"The freedom to do the freedom to be and the only way that we can do that is to take and honor those who sacrificed their lives and took the ultimate sacrifice for us to be able to enjoy the freedoms of this country."
This was the fourth annual 9/11 Heroes Run.
Fifty runs across the country will be going on during the next couple of weeks all benefiting the Travis Manion Foundation.
