Mesa PD: Student assaulted in elevator at East Valley Institute of Technology

A student was sexually assaulted and Mesa Police say the teen was attacked in an elevator at the East Valley Institute of Technology. FOX 10's Andrew Hasbun reports.

A student was sexually assaulted on the campus of a valley high school and Mesa Police say the teen was attacked in an elevator  at the East Valley Institute of Technology.

The suspect and teen victim are in the school's law enforcement program.

The victim claimed a male student assaulted her in an elevator after they had exchanged a hug. The girl told a teacher and the school notified the police.

The suspect will be charged as an adult.

Statement from East Valley Institute of Technology:

"Mesa Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault at the EVIT Main Campus involving two of our students. EVIT immediately notified Mesa Police when the female student reported the incident to her teacher. The male student has since withdrawn from EVIT, and Mesa Police are recommending charges against him."
