Chihuahua rescued from Phoenix rooftop gets adopted

A rescued little dog went up for adoption Monday after he was discovered on top of a home last week. FOX 10's Courtney Griffin reports.

- Maricopa County Animal Care and Control officials say they don't know how or why a little Chihuahua mix, now known as "Roofus," was spotted up on the roof of a home near Seventh Avenue and Southern last week.

"It's a mystery how he got up there, there were some trees and a fence and kind of like a tarp from the fence to the roof and we don't know if someone startled him and he just scrambled up there and couldn't figure out how to get down," said Melissa Gable of MCACC. "We had never heard of a Chihuahua on the roof and he had been up there for a few days and that made it even more interesting."

Melissa Gable says once they knew he wasn't coming down, they acted fast.

"We went back out there Thursday morning, called our friends at the humane society and we all scrambled and got him off the roof," she said.

Gable says the 3-year-old pup is doing great now and gets along well with other dogs.

"He's really come out of his shell, he's play with a toy this morning, he prances when you walk him on a leash," she said.

Gable expects him to fill out a little bit, but overall will remain a small dog.

"I would say Chihuahua and a Whippet or Italian Greyhound because he's got those really long, thin legs, so he's just an absolute doll," she said.

MCACC says Roofus has been adopted by the man who found the pup stuck on the roof!
