LAVEEN, Ariz. (KSAZ)
Surveillance cameras caught thieves in the act taking Halloween decorations from a front yard.
The family did not realize what happened until they noticed their inflatable dragon was missing.
Two thieves were caught on camera parking in front of a Laveen home.
They walked up the driveway and straight to the highlight of the family's Halloween display: a nine-foot inflatable dragon complete with lights and a wings that flap.
The dad did not want to be identified but shared his six-year-old daughter's disappointment.
"It broke my heart because my daughter was very much interested in putting the dragon decoration and all."
It was only on the front yard for three days before these thieves stole it.
"She literally started crying and started saying 'I want my dragon what happened dad' I said bad people got to it, I'll try my best to get it back."
Darrell Holmes lives next door and says he doesn't put up any holiday decorations because of the high risk of theft.
"It's pretty disgusting because people work hard and want to decorate their yards. It's sad that you can't even enjoy your own property anymore without people taking stuff off of it," said Holmes.
The thieves did not bother taking the non-electronic decorations, leaving the pumpkins and spiders hanging.
They also knew they were being recorded, it appears the thieves wore masks or painted their faces to hide their identities.
The owners of the inflatable dragon have filed a report with the Phoenix Police Department.
If anyone recognizes the people in the surveillance video or if they have seen the stolen dragon they are asked to call police.
