Police: 2 men found shot, killed inside car in Phoenix neighborhood

- Police are trying to solve a deadly mystery in the west valley where a car crashed into a home's block wall fence and the two men inside the vehicle were dead, but it wasn't the crash that killed them.

The people who live in the home near 31st Avenue and Pierce say they heard a loud bang around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

"I just heard my cousin screaming 'cause she got scared. So we came outside and that is where we saw the car right there," said Maria Ventura.

They found a Ford Crown Victoria in their front yard and inside, two men with gunshot wounds. The family immediately called 911.

"We are just sleeping and out of nowhere just to wake up to that.. it is crazy," said Ventura.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the two Hispanic men, believed to be 20 to 30 years old, with multiple gunshot wounds.

"Lifesaving measures were taken for both victims, however they were both pronounced deceased on scene.  The car has bullet holes in one side as well. A rifle was found in the car with the victims. The family in the house were unhurt and are not believed to be part of the incident," stated Phoenix Police Lt. Paul Taylor.

"I think his foot was on the gas pedal 'cause the tires kept going and the whole block smelled like smoke and burned rubber really bad," said Gladys Chivarria, who lives nearby. "It is sad especially because they were so young. We saw one of them on the floor and he looked like he was maybe 25."

Police searched the car all morning and worked to piece together what led up to the shooting.

Investigators believe the shooting happened at a different location and the two men crashed here as they succumbed to their injuries.

"I hope they find them.. I hope they do find out who done it because it is necessary to get these people off the streets," said Loran Richmond, who lives nearby.
