Police investigate possible explosive device near Scottsdale City Hall

-
The threat of a possible bomb device caused a huge scare in Scottsdale this morning.

An apartment complex and several government buildings had to be evacuated, but thankfully it turned out to be a false alarm.

But for a while everyone's nerves were on edge. Courtney griffin was there and has more.

“Had a police officer knock on my door and I could tell it was fairly urgent by the extensiveness he knocked, pretty extensively,” said evacuated resident, Jerry Burgess.

Several people along 75th St and Miller Road in Scottsdale were evacuated after police found a lone vehicle parked in the Scottsdale City Court parking lot with suspicious materials inside.

“A Scottsdale PD Bomb Detection Dog was called out to the scene and that dog alerted on that vehicle.”

Sgt. Ben Hoster with the Scottsdale police department says after the dog's suspicions, a robot was also called to the scene.

“[The] DPS Bomb Squad is assisting us with this investigation.”

Jerry Burgess say he had about 10 minutes to grab his essentials and get out.

“We have our problems around here like any neighborhood, but nothing like this has ever happened.”

Residences were told to head to the Catholic Church across the street while police continued their investigation.

“Kind of scary…First thing I thought was wondering if it was something to do with the election over at City Hall.”
