PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Hikers in the West Valley have likely seen the American flag atop mountains at Thunderbird Park, but according to man who puts those flags there, many of the stars and stripes have been taken.
" 13 of them," said Tony Escamillo. Escamillo places the flags to honor veterans and the country. Other hikers often putch in, once he gets to the top of the mountains.
"I start taking it apart, and then they start joining in and they help me, and i have some people fold the flag, and they help me put the flag up," said Escamillo.
The flags, according to Escamillo, are being replaced by him.
"Our freedoms are not to be taken for granted," said Escamillo. "The flag represents everything."
Escamillo said while he does not know who is taking the flags and way, he has no plans to stop replacing them.
