PEORIA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A woman has been arrested, in connection with a serious injury accident Saturday night that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old.
According to Peoria police, Amber Sloan, 23, was arrested for alleged reckless endangerment. Police said she was processed and released, pending further investigation.
The crash took place at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, in the area of 87th Avenue and Deer Valley Road. The accident, according to police, involved a pickup truck and a minivan. The truck was reportedly drive by Sloan, who lives in Phoenix.
A preliminary investigation shows the minivan was heading east on Deer Valley Road when the pickup truck was traveling north on 87th Avenue, and possibly failed to yield to oncoming traffic at a stop sign, and struck the minivan.
According to police, there were seven people in the minivan, five of them being children. One child was ejected from the car, and two were trapped inside, and had to be extricated. On Sunday afternoon, Peoria police announced that one of the seven people in the minivan, identified as a 12-year-old, has died. The 12-year-old's identity has not been released.
Peoria police said impairment is not a factor at this time.
