PHOENIX, Ariz. - A father has died, and his son taken to the hospital, after both were hit by a car in Phoenix Sunday afternoon.
The incident reportedly took place around 1:00 p.m. The two, according to police, were walking on Northern Avenue, heading east, near the light rail track. A driver, officials said, was headed north on 19th Avenue. The driver reportedly had clearance to drive through the intersection, and did not see the two.
The son, identified as a 12-year-old, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to officials.
Area residents said they constantly see incidents occur at the intersection.
"This intersection at Northern and 19th is an accident about to happen all the time, constantly," Diana Brest, who lives near the intersection. "We see people crossing the light rail, crossing the tracks, not walking at the lights. They should have amber flashing lights or something that says, 'can't cross' or 'light rail tracks, do not cross' or something."
The area where the crash happened was restricted to traffic for some time.
