SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - People are shopping online more than ever, and the big companies, like Amazon.com get most of the attention, but local stores are getting in on Cyber Monday, too.
At Amazon's west valley fulfillment center, it is the busiest day of the year.
"Today, we prepare for it all year. A lot of people call it our Super Bowl. Last year, we shipped more than 54 million items on Cyber Monday alone," said Amazon's Tom Cook.
This is one of four fulfillment centers in the valley. About 2,500 people work in the 1.2 million square foot facility. The online shopping giant is offering deep discounts.
"New deals every five minutes, thousands of deals on everything from electronics to home decor.. anything you need, we have it," said Cook.
For a local business, it is hard to compete with something like this, but through Scottsdale-based ScottsMarketplace.com, independent shops are getting in the Cyber Monday game.
"It has been busy," said Scott Curry, founder and CEO of Scott's Marketplace, where small stores across the country sell and market their products online.
"Now we can shop and support local. It doesn't have to physically be where I am," he said.
The site has seen an increase in sales this year and is offering its own Cyber Monday deals.
"They don't have the ad spend to be able to reach. They don't have the foot traffic to be able to do it. So I think when you look at bringing a collective group of local business together, now you can compete or have conversations against the big big boys," explained Curry.
A few hundred Arizona stores use the site to sell their products across the country.
When it is all tallied, analysts expect $3.6 billion in Cyber Monday spending.
