PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Phoenix woman and three small children were trapped inside a burning home Friday afternoon. The woman was seriously hurt, but two of the children were able to escape serious injury, by hiding in a closet.
Fire crews were called to the home, located near 21st St. and Southern, just before 4:00 p.m. for a kitchen fire. when crews arrived, they found the woman, who is in her 60s, in the front yard. She was not breathing, and she didn't have a pulse at the time. The woman was reportedly transported to the hospital in critical condition.
"I just can not believe this you know. This close to the holidays and everything," said Dorothy Porter, who is a friend to one of the victims.
According to the son-in-law of the female victim, the damage to the home is extensive.
One fire crews were able to search the home after they contained the fire, and found the two children, identified as a four-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, hiding in a back bedroom closet. Both were taken to the hospital, in stable condition.
A cause for the fire is still under investigation, but fire officials said there were no working smoke detector inside the home.
