PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - An animal sanctuary is nearing capacity after taking in over 40 Pot-bellied pigs from a hoarding situation. Now they're hoping to find homes for the pigs.
Everywhere you look at the Circle L Ranch Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, you'll find pigs -- and that number could go up as two of the pigs are pregnant.
The pigs all came to the sanctuary from a hoarding situation in Mesa. Terra O'Brien, the ranch manager here, says they're used to taking care of hundreds of animals, but not this many pigs at the same time.
"It's the cleaning and the feeding.. it's taking on 40 extra animals and they are all right here," she said.
The pigs add an extra two hours for chores every day.
"It's stressful, but we get it done."
That's why they're looking for good homes for all these pigs.
"You have to be very tolerant of the messes and just creating havoc, because they do," said O'Brien.
They say it's important for people who are thinking of adopting one of these pot-bellied pigs that they're not going to stay small and cute like this forever. Some of these pot belly pigs can get upwards of 200 pounds.
"They can be house animals, but they need their space, but they also need to socialize with other pigs with people," said O'Brien.
