CHANDLER, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Chandler bus driver has a special bond with a little boy who waves to him and the children on his bus every morning. That driver decided to make the little boy's Christmas extra special by giving him a gift he knew he'd love.
1-year-old Ryker loves buses. He loves them so much that they're part of his daily routine!
"He always asks for the bus every morning," said Jaclyn McFarland, Ryker's mother.
So Ryker and Jaclyn go outside every morning to see this man -- bus driver Scott Garner.
"I come around the corner and I see him out there in his mom's arms no matter what temperature it is," said Scott.
Scott and the kids on his bus wave to Ryker every morning. He saw how happy this gesture made the little boy, so he decided to do something else. He got up early one morning, went to a couple stores and found something perfect for Ryker.
"Finally, I found a little Tonka bus," he said. "I just gotta get this for him."
And on Monday morning, instead of just driving by, Scott stopped his bus in front of Ryker's home.
"He said he had a gift for him because he really enjoyed seeing him every day and has noticed that we were out all the time," said Jaclyn.
Scott handed them a gift bag with a note that said "To a future bus rider." Ryker's mom was shocked and grateful.
"I think he kind of restored my faith in you know, humans being nice to each other," she said. "Right now, we get wrapped up in Christmas and people stealing packages and people doing selfish things for themselves and to see this man go out of his way in such a good way was more than I could have ever expected."
But seeing Ryker every day is also a gift for Scott. He says it brings back old memories.
"My son used to do that when he was 3 and 4 years old. We would just be out there watching the buses roll in and he learned to count."
It's a memory that comes back every morning when Scott sees little Ryker waving back at him.
