Police: Suspect sought after firing at officers

- Police are looking for a man who they say fired a gunshot at two officers while they were sitting in their patrol car.

Phoenix police say the incident happened on July 2 just after 4 a.m. when the officers responded to a call of armed suspects near Interstate 17 and Camelback Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they spotted a suspect walking down the street.

When officers pointed the spotlight on their patrol car towards the suspect, he initially stopped walking and placed his hands up in the air, but he then turned away, removed a handgun and fired one shot at the officers.

The gunshot struck the windshield of the patrol car and the officers exited the patrol car, leaving it in drive. The car then collided with a nearby fence.

The officers were not injured.

The suspect was last seen running southbound on North Black Canyon Access Road from West Hazelwood Street. He is described as a 25-year-old Hispanic man with black curly hair, 6'0" and 190 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark hoodie, dark shorts and a red bandana around his neck.
