DEA agents execute multiple warrants in Valley-wide Opioid bust

Officials with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) conducted a Valley-wide Opioid bust Thursday morning, resulting in several people being taken into custody, and the shutting down of two local pharmacies.

According to a statement released by the DEA Thursday afternoon, agents obtained a Federal grand jury indictment that charged pharmacist Vilawoe Aku Boadu, 38, for allegedly distributing controlled substances, including oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam, and promethazine with codeine.

In all, DEA officials said eight warrants were simultaneously executed throughout the Phoenix metro area, including three businesses. FOX 10 Phoenix has learned one of the places where a warrant was executed is Estrella Pharmacy, located at 91st Avenue and Thomas.

Agents, according to the statement, seized 13 handguns, three rifles, and a shotgun, as well as several bank accounts and nearly $200,000 in cash and assets, in addition to several vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz.

DEA agents, according to the statement, also arrested the following people:

  • Michael Karron Holley, 31
  • Ber Rhondi Patrice Funn-McKinley, 32
  • Julian Thomas Petty, 27
