Families treated to 3-course meal, thanks to St. Vincent de Paul

- Hundreds of Valley men, women and children were treated Wednesday evening to a surprise dinner at Saint Vincent de Paul in Phoenix.

Steak, chicken, and Churro were just some of the dishes hundreds of less fortunate people in the Valley enjoyed Wednesday. St. Vincent de Paul and U.S. Foods partnered up to surprise families with a fine dining experience, with chefs cooking up a three-course meal, for a fine dining experience.

Director of Development Ryan Corry said this was something the Advisory Board thought of, to invite food distributors to come and give a dining experience to families that need it to most.

"It provides an experience they wouldn't spend their money on," said Corry. "We want to give it to them anyway because it looks at the dignity and humanity of what everyone should be able to experience, regardless of the ability to pay."

Chef Angel Joy of Food Fanatics said he and his team have been preparing for the dinner since Monday, and it's all about giving back to the community.

"Given the chance and opportunity to partner with St. Vincent was a tremendous opportunity for us to give back to the community," said Joy.

One of the volunteers, Elisabeth Barber, spent the day organizing the event. She said she was excited to help out, in any way that she can. 

"It was an opportunity to come out with the community and help out and join in with my fellow employees and have a fun evening serving people meals," said Barber.
