Officials with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday the arrest of a 46-year-old woman, in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Pamela Pitts in 1988.

According to a statement, Shelly Marie Harmon, also known as Shelly Norgard, was arrested in Nevada in early June, in connection with the murder of Pitts. Harmon was transferred to the Camp Verde Detention Center on July 11, and was booked on a count of First Degree Murder.

Pitts, who was from Prescott, was last seen on September 16, 1988 at an area near Prescott that is known as Gordo's Pit or Alto Pit. Pitts' burnt body was found there on September 29, 1988. She and Harmon were roommates for a few months when the alleged murder took place.

Harmon, according to the statement, has a criminal past. In 1991, she was arrested for murdering her boyfriend in Prescott. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison, in 1993.

According to the statement, detectives have suspected Harmon's involvement in Pitts' murder over the years, and additional details linking Harmon to Pitt's murder were developed, over the past several months. Detectives, however, are withholding specific details in the case, reportedly due to pending court proceedings.

Harmon, according to the statement, is being held on a $3 million cash-only bond.
