The Department of Public Safety has made an arrest after someone fired multiple shots and struck a sedan on the Loop 101 at Bell Road on Saturday.
DPS troopers have arrested 36-year-old Christopher Hoffman for opening fire on a vehicle on the Loop 101. They say the isolated road rage incident from Saturday is not connection to the investigation of freeway shootings dating back to August 2015.
Just three weeks after DPS confirmed the 11th valley freeway shooting in a string of incidents, the DPS reached out to the public asking for help to solve this case.
At around 11:00 Saturday morning, while driving on Loop 101 near Bell Road, a tan pickup pulled alongside a grey Honda Civic traveling northbound and opened fire.
"Multiple rounds or multiple bullets did strike the driver’s side of that dark grey vehicle, Garcia said." "the rear passenger side window behind the driver was completely shot out."
State troopers say with help from witnesses and citizens, detectives were able to link evidence of the shooting to Hoffman. He is facing charges of committing a drive-by shooting, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm within city limits, and possession of a dangerous drug.
"The fact that we don't have someone that was fatally injured today is incredible," Garcia said on Saturday.
