3 hurt after SUV hits pedestrians outside Safeway store in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - One pedestrian has been seriously injured and two other people have been taken to hospitals after authorities say a vehicle veered onto the sidewalk in front of a supermarket near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard.

Police say two men were struck by the SUV and an elderly female passenger in the vehicle also was injured.

They say a 70-year-old woman was driving the vehicle in the parking lot in front of the Safeway before it drove onto the sidewalk and struck the men.

The SUV then crashed into a concrete pillar outside the supermarket.

Police say the female passenger had non-life-threatening injuries, but both men were taken to a hospital and one was in serious condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police say impairment doesn't appear to be a factor.

No names have been released in this case.
