4 killed after plane flying from Scottsdale crashes near Payson

A family of four, including two young girls, are dead after the small plane they were on crashed into the mountains, north of Payson.

The plane was on its way to Colorado, after taking off from Scottsdale on Monday night. Scottsdale Police Department notified the Gila County Sheriff's Office of an overdue plane traveling to Telluride.

The victims were identified as Eric Falbe, 44, his wife Carrie, and Eric's two children; Tori, 14, and Skylar, 12. The four were supposed to be spending a week on the ski slopes, but instead, their lives were tragically cut short.

According to officials, all four bodies were recovered from the mountain side.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday the plane crashed in a remote area 14 miles north of Payson.

After learning of the overdue plane, investigators pinged a cell phone and the downed aircraft was found north of Payson.

Three victims were immediately found with the wreckage and the fourth was found during an additional search.

The FAA has identified the plane as a Cessna 210, which crashed due to "unknown circumstances."

The FAA and NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash.
