3 suspects on the loose after teen found shot in north Phoenix

- People who live in the north Phoenix neighborhood that knew the victim are very heartbroken and they say he was a very good kid and really just a neighborhood helper.

Last night, he tried to approach a group of people in front of a home and things ended deadly for him. Phoenix police are now searching for his killer.

"We seen the guy just laying on the side of the street," a neighbor said.

Neighbors near 35th Avenue and Thunderbird found the scene of one of their neighbors killed outside of their homes last night. Detectives say the 18-year-old was in his home with family when he spotted something unusual at the home across the street when a woman was pacing back and forth and a screen had been pulled off a window.

Witnesses told police they heard what sounded like banging noises and saw a car waiting outside the house.

Police say the teen approached the woman and a man, who came out of the home, confronted them and was holding what appeared to be a pellet gun. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the teen.

The suspects then hopped in a reddish Mitsubishi and took off.

Police worked through the night to piece together what happened. Detectives say they found drug paraphernalia in the home, but no one inside.

The victim's family spent much of the morning in despair and weren't ready to talk. Neighbors were also in tears as they described their neighbor, who they knew as a helper.

"I am so sad for him," a neighbor said. "He was [a] very good neighbor."
