Police: Janitor admitted to spying on middle school girls' locker room

A middle school janitor is accused of a disturbing crime. Police say he was peeping on girls in the locker room.
A school custodian is under arrest, accused of spying on young girls as they changed in the locker room. It all happened at Mountain Sky Middle School in Phoenix.

The night custodian has been accused of peeping on the girls through an old laundry chute in the storage room. Phoenix Police say the man admitted to the disturbing crime.

32-year-old Daniel Aitken is accused of peeping in on a girls locker room, now he's under house arrest and not commenting on the allegations.

Phoenix Police say the custodian admitted to seeing at least one middle school girl in her bra and underwear. The school started investigating Aitken after another worker reported the shelving in the storage room covering an old laundry chute had been moved. School staff set up security cameras, and investigators show the custodian entering the storage room, moving the shelving, and using the laundry chute as a peephole.

Parents are now having a tough conversation with their children.

"I talk to her like I would any other adult, be careful of your surroundings, and aware of your surroundings, if you get a funny feeling stay with it, because there is probably a reason for it," said Julia Johnson.

The district says the custodian has been fired, and school officials say counselors will be available in the days to come for any student who needs support.

Aitken is now facing charges of unlawful and attempted unlawful viewing.
