Police: man robbed homes of people attending funerals

-
In recent weeks, Scottsdale Police have been working with detectives from Phoenix and Glendale to catch three suspects who allegedly targeted homes with people who had recently died.

Officials cross-referenced obituaries with addresses of the homes robbed and finally tracked them down, two of the suspects were arrested in Colorado, the other was arrested in Scottsdale after hitting yet another victim attending a funeral service.

Watches, earrings, engraved silver and gold, at one time were all gifts exchanged in the 40-year marriage of Stanley and Mary Sachau; now it's evidence.

"Looked at the jewelry chest, all that stuff was gone, went through all the drawers, went through some of the stuff out here, and then the back of the house," said Stanley Sachau.

Last week Stanley said his final goodbye to his wife, he returned home from her funeral and found he was robbed of memories and momentos of Mary.

"He had a pillowcase, he just took a pillowcase off one of our pillows, and that's what he put all the stuff in," said Stanley.

It's an unthinkable crime, but not one of a kind. According to police the suspect, Jack Lins had participated in at least 17 other similar burglaries in the last five months. Leaving greaving family members like Stanley, asking just one question, why?

"You know it's just, why would someone want to do that? It just seems like we had a loss of life, and now a loss of other personal things," said Stanley.

Now with Lins behind bars, Stanley is trying to pick up the pieces and says he's most thankful for his new guardian angel.

"What it is, she was up there watching out for us, you know what I mean, that's what they say, she's up there getting ready for us," said Stanley.

Detectives say when they arrested Lin, his cell phone had an obituary website pulled up, with a list of four addresses that are believed to have been targeted by him. He now faces multiple felony charges.
