- Tempe police are searching for a suspect after receiving a call Tuesday morning about shots fired in the area of McKellips and Miller.

When police and firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the body of an adult male with a gunshot wound. No other victims were located in the area.

TPD's Molly Enright stated, "Laird School is under re-construction, and no students or staff are at that location.  No schools were affected or put on lockdown as a precaution."

Police continue to go door-to-door to assure that the neighborhood is safe.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens, wearing a red baseball hat and baggy pants. Officials say he fled the scene in a silver passenger car.

"At this point, our patrol officers are doing a house-by-house canvas to locate any witnesses," said Lt. Scott Smith.  "We are in the very preliminary stages of this investigation, so more information will most likely come out later today."

The victim has not been identified and the motive for the crime is not known.
