Mother of 7 found dead in an alley on Christmas night

A 33-year-old mother of seven is found dead in an alley on Christmas night. Now, the family is remembering Candy Salazar.

Salazar had children ranging in age from 15 years old to just 4 months. She is described by her family as a warm and giving person.

"I'm just in shock," said Davina Montez. "I feel like my heart was ripped out of my chest. She just loved everyone so much, she took care of everyone. She was such a giving person."

Police have released few details surrounding Salazar's death, but neighbors near the scene of where Salazar's body was found in South Phoenix said they heard gunshots around the time she was found dead.

"I think my sister was very trusting in people, and I think she was hurt by the fact that she was there to help everybody when she could, but when she needed help, people turned their backs," said Montez.

The holidays are for families, but for this family, Christmas will always live on as a haunting memory.

"It will never be the same," said Montez. "Christmas will never be the same without my sister."

The family is trying to raise money for a proper burial and to help take care of the seven children left behind. They will hold a car wash benefit this weekend, near 25th Street and McDowell.
